I love teaching and always wanted to be in the teaching profession. When I decided to go into engineering, being an engineering educator was the natural progression. I believe my students enjoy my energy and passion about the subject matter when I am teaching a class.
If at first you don’t succeed…
When my students are struggling, the most important thing I tell them is to keep trying at the face of adversity. I want to teach them to think and not be discouraged if they do not get the “right” answer the first time. Real learning happens when things are difficult. I try to stick to the fundamentals, believing that if students can understand the basics and concepts they will eventually figure out the tools to solve the problems. I encourage them to understand the computation engine behind the software.
I have been fortunate to be in the university and college, and have colleagues and mentors that have given me a lot of support to flourish as an educator and as a researcher. They have harnessed my strengths and provided appropriate support for me to pursue it.
The biggest benefit of being an ASEE member is to network with a great group of people who are passionate about teaching and care a lot about students.
In my spare time I love to run, travel, read, and spend time with family.
