2021 ASEE Research Leadership Institute
(Formerly ERC)

All sessions start at 3:00 EST, will be virtual and free of charge.

Please join us for the following sessions:

  • February 9, 3:00 – 5:00 EST – Joining the Network; Special Session for Research Leaders New to the ASEE Research Leadership Institute
    • Interactive panel discussion facilitated by the members of the ASEE ERC Board of Directors.  The session will focus on challenges facing research leadership.  The Board Members will share their perspectives and experiences in dealing with various areas of responsibility  and participants will break into groups to discuss areas of responsibilities in research leadership.

  • March 9, 3:00 – 6:00 EST – Research in a Post-COVID world; ASEE ERC Business Meeting
    • A series of breakouts with participants sharing their practices around graduate student recruitment, team formation, graduate student experience and engagement, and rethinking facilities use.
    • A portion of this session will serve as the required annual meeting of the Engineering Research Council member.  We will also present the annual McGraw Research Award and hear from the recipients.
    • Networking breakout rooms will conclude the meeting.

  • April 13, 3:00 – 5:00 EDT – Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
    • We will have an engaging discussion with Professor Stephanie Goodwin, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Science Director at Wright State University, on how COVID-19 has shed light on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, DEI, issues in higher education.  We will have breakout discussions to discuss what we can do to make a difference within our sphere of influence, particularly related to evaluation and promotion and tenure.

  • May 11, 3:00 – 5:00 EDT – Federal Budget and Large Grants
    • Back by popular demand, we will have an informative presentation and Q&A with Matt Hourihan, Director of the R&D Budget and Policy Program for the American Association for the Advancement of Science, on the Federal budget outlook. Group discussions will follow on planning for large center grants and on collaboration, including equitable collaboration, and collaborations across units and across universities.  You will not be disappointed that you participated in this session.

We will provide workshop outputs for the attendees shortly after the meetings.  Please know that while each University may have a single member of the ERC, non-members are certainly welcomed at the ERC Annual Conference.  Deans, associate deans, department chairs and other research leaders, from both Engineering and other disciplines, are encouraged to attend this conference.  If the agenda topics are of value to others at your University, we encourage you to pass along the invitation and recommendation to attend.

Registration

Please visit ASEE’s website for information on registration.  Registered participants will receive calendar invitations and links to join each session.

If you have additional questions, please contact the Conferences Department at conferences@asee.org.
